Simulated Field Trial Days
MAP are pleased to announce in conjunction with our sponsors Gundog Gear an exciting and innovative new training experience.
Field Trial Simulation Days allows you to take advantage of our experienced instructors and innovative equipment which exposes you and your dog to multiple various scenarios involving multiple marked retrieves, runners and blinds.
Field Trial Simulation Days was invented with the explicit aim of perfecting yours and your dog’s performance and maximising your chances of success both in field trials and when picking up.
Field trial simulation days are exactly that – training for novice and experienced handlers and dogs alike to prepare you for field trials and picking up on shoot days. We have very experienced gundog handlers and trainers with vast experience in gundog working tests, picking up and field trials.
Field Trial Simulation Days are aimed to give your dog the second chance that you don’t get in a test, and train for success in field trials or picking up. Using our unique methods and equipment, real-life trial and picking-up situations are perfectly replicated in an environment which gives you the time and space to get it right! Consider this scenario:-
You and your dog are part of a ‘walk-up’, and multiple birds are flushed and shot. Your judge tells you to mark every bird; the guy to your left is sent for a bird, but your dog runs in. In a field trial, your judge would ask you to put your dog on a lead, and for you it’s the end of the trial. You leave wishing that you could have another chance to get it right. With Field Trial Simulation Days, you can have that chance.
Our unique system consists of a hidden speaker system located throughout the training area, which produces the sounds you’d expect to hear from pheasants, partridge, duck etc as well as gun shots at the appropriate times and coming from the right direction. For those working spaniels, casting left and right through game crop, long grass or woodland, life-like birds are launched remotely, giving the spaniels training to not chase after flushed game and to teach them to drop to the shot. For all retriever breeds, the handler and dog are given the opportunity to mark retrieves, assist in steadiness training and not running in, and to complete various retrieves.
Consider this water retrieve scenario; ducks are flushed from a flight pond and several are shot. Most are clean kills, but you also have ‘runners.’ In a real-life situation, it is imperative that wounded game or ‘runners’ are picked first. On our Field Trial Simulation Days, we can re-create this situation exactly using multiple hidden remote controlled launchers which send game in multiple directions and varying distances, so you and your dog can ‘mark’ multiple shot game, and moving simulated game are used to simulate runners. With our system, you are able to perfect your dog’s water retrieves and his ability to pick up a ‘runner.’
Other scenarios developed include:
Using a high tower in woodland to launch simulated game, replicating a valley shoot situation.
Replicating a covey of partridges skimming over hedgerows
Deep cover, hedgerows and ditches enabling spaniels to work and flush game,
Jumps and double jumps into woodland and long grass.
Blind retrieves put into every situation
Training your dog to handle ‘runners.’
You could potentially find all these situations in a field trial or when picking up. The possibilities are endless, and a Field Trial Simulation Day can be tailored to meet your specific requirements, and our experienced instructors will help with your training throughout the day. We have training grounds on the Wirral, in Dumfries and Galloway and Shrewsbury, and we are just as happy to bring our system to you if you have appropriate ground.
